Represent Post vs Article: is there a difference? Where to find it? article
3m read

The one who ever listened about blogs knows the terms blog post or blog article. Someone even knows the mystic one called entry. At first glance, it seems that there are no differences between them. To be honest, for a long time, I also didn't determine them. Actually, I called (and still calling) content in my blog - ‘mix of passion and bad copy’. I'm working on naming.

Now for those who want to see the difference, here are the features of each of these content types.

Let's start with the blog post. Personally, I determine the blog posts as pro-article with the author's own opinion. As you can see, I like naming things and doing it badly. But to be serious, here are the main attributes that characterize the blog post:

  1. Mostly the author's own opinion. When I write about my experience in copywriting or making a pizza, it’s a blog post.
  2. No strong research or interviews. When someone writes a blog post, it doesn't want to bother you with statistics, long terms, and math calculating. With blog posts, we are just chilling there, sometimes learning something new, another time just relaxing. 99,9% of the texts you see on Instagram from bloggers are posting.
  3. Short text volume. Not so short to be a note, but not long enough for an article.
  4. Write based on SEO keywords. For those who are not familiar with SEO, it's a search engineering optimization. Simply, it's when you use Google keywords search to know what people googles the most.
  5. Casual writing style. I think I do not need to explain this bit, right, pal?
  6. No editor. A few common mistakes may appear. Well, I do my best, okay? Wanna be my editor? Let me know.
  7. Low payment. For those who are familiar with the world of freelance knows that the post peace may rate from $5 to $20.

Is everything clear there? I bet you already know all the article specifics based on posts one, but let’s have a quick look:

  1. The author’s opinion is not allowed. Well, it might be as a part of the conclusion or if the author is a highly-skilled professional in its area. But usually, phrases such as ‘I think’ or ‘ I doubt’ did not appear.
  2. Including interviews and research from credible experts and firms. That’s the main reason why the author does not express its opinion. There are already too many minds in it. Thanks to interviews, research, and statistics, the article is often more informative and professional writing.
  3. Longer than 500 words. Let’s be honest, you doubtebly may go deep into the question writing less than 450-500 words. Even this little piece that you’re reading now is about 600 words. A good, professional article may consist of 1000 to 3000 words. Not a bad piece of work, right?
  4. Keywords not important. When the online newspaper interviewed Elon Musk or Brad Pitt, no one thought about the keywords. When it does the paper one - SEO is not important at all. There is just no such need. Usually, even an online article is a unique masterpiece which the reader will find in any case.
  5. A sophisticated writing style. I like to read articles as I adore how greatly authors may combine the expert opinion with the Star Wars joke. Note: I do not mean highly science articles, but the ones we saw in journals.
  6. The editor cleans it up for you. Thanks for such underestimated geniuses, articles look way more expert and masterful.
  7. Good payment. Well, it depends on what is good for you, but the article rates start from $.10-$1 for a word and up.

Now you can spot the difference. But in practice, there are more like blog-article convergence than the specific canonical type of blog content. Let me know in the comments what you are writing and leave the links for your masterpieces. I will be glad to come by.
