I'm continuing the series of famous Ukrainian personalities and today I want to share you some facts about Olga of Kiev and Svyatoslav the Courageous.

Princess Olga of Kiev (945- 964)
Territory: no change
Measures:
• Overcame the separatism of local princes - revenge for her husband
• Chronicle; executed ambassadors, burned the capital of Derevlyany Iskorosten
• Tax reform - clearly defined the rate of tribute (charter, lesson)
• Established graveyards: places of tribute collection
• Received the Embassy of the German Emperor Otto I, Bishop Adalbert (diplomacy)
• 957 converted to Christianity in Constantinople, Helen, canonized
• Chronicle: "Prepared the ground for the spread of Christianity"
Svyatoslav the Courageous, Conqueror (964-972)
Territory: joined Vyatichi (in the east, after the defeat of the Khazar Khaganate)
Streets and Tiverts (after victories over Danube Bulgaria)
+ expanded the territory of the state +
Measures:
• In 966 he defeated the Khazar Khaganate
• Chronicle: "The Khazars came out against him - he defeated the Khazars and their city Itil"
• Consequences: paved the way for conquerors from the East
• Wars with the Bulgarian Empire: 1) In 967 he captured 80 cities, wanted to move the capital to Pereyaslavets on the Danube. In 968 the Pechenegs came to Kyiv and were forced to return. 2) 970 - unsuccessful campaign, defeated by Byzantium near Dorostol
• Divided the territory of the state between his sons
• Remained a pagan, destroyed Christian churches
• In 972 he died near Fr. Khortytsia from the Pechenegs "Wishing strangers, lost his"
