Many dreams of a pet waving its tail at the sight of its owner or lying down on its knees after a hard day. But the reality is that many people who get a pet simply are not ready for responsibility or cannot get along with it. I have prepared five 'stop signals' for you, agreeing with which will make you reconsider your desire to have a dog.

  1. You are not ready to sacrifice your daily routine. When starting a dog, you should understand that at least 2 hours a day you will need to set aside for walking with it. But not only on a fine spring day but also in the rain, blizzard, heat, and cold. You are ready for this, and two hours doesn't seem like much? Well, some breeds, for example, energetic huskies, need at least three or better four-five hours of active exercise a DAY. Otherwise, the dog will get bored, will gnaw your furniture and walls, and may become depressed or sick.
  2.  You are not ready to change your habits. If you think that nothing will change with the dog in the house, think again. With the advent of a four-legged friend, you will need to clean up more often, not leave food on the table, and sacrifice a vacation if there is no one to leave the dog with.
  3.  You are not ready to waste money. Even if you took a dog from a kennel, you still have to spend money. And I do not mention purebred dogs. Food, vet, vaccinations, vitamins, toys, clothing, and this is just a shortlist of what you will have to spend your budget on. If you have a puppy, be prepared to buy new slippers or even a pair of expensive sneakers to replace ones it chews. Therefore, if you are not ready for unexpected expenses and, it may be better to postpone the animal.
  4. You are not ready to raise your pet. A dog is like a child. You must teach it what is good and what is bad. But this cannot happen without training. Otherwise, if you do not deal with the dog, you can lose control over it, and life with it will only bring trouble.
  5.  You are not ready to adjust to the dog. When starting a dog, you will have to plan your life for the next fifteen years. Do you know what you will be doing all these years? Are you planning to move in with your partner? What if it's allergic? Are you thinking about the child? Can you be invited to work abroad? If you now live with a partner, who will get the dog if you break up? All these questions will have to be answered before bringing the animal into the house.

A dog is not only joy, fun, devotion, and heartless love. It is primarily a responsibility for a living being. As soon as you think about bringing a dog into your life, tell yourself honestly if you are ready for it. If yes, a wonderful, joyful experience awaits you. If not, wait with the dog, not to ruin the life of either yourself or the pet.
