Flakes is the most popular dry breakfast. With the addition of milk or juice, it also becomes the tastiest. But what is cereal with milk? Soup? Porridge? Let’s figure it out.

I will not torment you like oatmeal over low heat. Technically, cereal with milk is not porridge or soup. Or are they?

If you use cold milk, there is not enough interaction between the cereal and milk to make it a single dish, and therefore cannot be called soup or porridge.

In fact, cereal with milk is the same dry cereal that you take milk with. When it comes to soup, the ingredients interact with each other, giving off smells and tastes, mixing, without being separate ingredients anymore, but one whole mess of taste.

If you are using hot or warm milk, then this is ... still not soup. Perhaps this dish can be called sweet pudding or porridge if you allow the cereal to soak up the milk and mix with it. But let's be honest, crunchy cereal with milk tastes muuuch better. Well, a matter of taste.

Flakes with hot milk and the addition of other ingredients like jam, Nutella, nuts, cinnamon, can be considered as soup. Sure, this is not a standard soup in the general sense, which we are used to thinking of as a mixture of meat and vegetables in broth or water. But it’s close enough.

Thus, the definition of cereal with milk depends on the preparation method, the amount of ingredients and the consistency. Flakes with cold milk is more likely a food with sauce. At the same time, with hot milk, especially with additional ingredients, it is soup (Almost. Maybe. Ugh, whatever).
